License Renewal Cycle Time for Arkansas (MDs/DOs)
- Arkansas state licenses for MDs/DOs must be renewed every year, in your birth month.
- The license renewal cycle and requirements are the same for MDs and DOs.
Board Rule Checklist: State of Arkansas (MDs/DOs)
- Complete 20 hours of CME
- Due date: Every year at license renewal
- Of the 20 hours, complete 10 hours of Category 1 CME in the primary area of practice
- Due date: Every year at license renewal
- Of the 20 hours, complete 1 hour of CME specifically regarding the prescribing of opioids and benzodiazepines
- Due date: Every year at license renewal
- If you were awarded the American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award (AMA PRA) certificate: you are not required to comply with continuing education requirements for the current renewal period
- If you are a prescriber who was licensed after December 31st, 2015: Complete a one-time requirement of 3 hours of prescribing education approved by the Arkansas State Medical Board
- Due date: Two years after Initial License Date
Special Rules for Arkansas
- If you provide evidence of an internship, residency, or fellowship in a teaching institution approved by the ACGME, AOA, AMA, or AAMC, you may earn 1 credit hour for each full day of training
- If you provide evidence of education for an advanced degree in a medical or medically related field in a teaching institution approved by the AMA, AOA, or AAMC, you may earn 1 credit hour for each full day of study
- If you provide evidence of full-time research in a teaching institution approved by the LCME, AOA, AMA, or AAMC, you may earn 1 credit hour for each full day of research
- If you provide evidence of publication or presentation of a medical paper, report, or book, that is authored and published and deals with current developments, skills, procedures or treatment related to the practice of medicine, you may earn 1 credit hour for each hour of preparation, writing, and/or presentation
