You weren’t able to attend? That’s ok, here’s what you missed:
- The value of telemedicine:
- There is an extreme value to telemedicine. It provides medical institutions with a new way for collaboration, transcends state lines and networks, lightens the waiting rooms, decreases burnout, and potentially explores new revenues. For physicians, it offers the opportunity to take control of their practices, to open a private practice, the ability to regain freedom, a way to reconnect with patients, reduce costs, and create flexibility.
- The importance of having a strong network:
- Physicians must work as a team to take care of the patient, having a strong network of physicians allows you to get the patient in the hands of the proper doctor quickly.
- Encouraging your colleagues to embrace telemedicine will help build your referral network.
- Impact on wait time:
- Telemedicine tremendously cuts patient's travel time. As the world becomes closer through technology, patients move around the country more often. In some scenarios, they would prefer to keep their original healthcare providers or desire additional advice from other providers. For example, a Rhode Island-based patient wants or needs to be seen by a specialist in California. This consultation can be achieved within hours rather than spending the time, money, and headache of traveling across the country.
- Breaking barriers with telemedicine:
- If you have been struggling to get a thorough exam virtually, think outside the box. Think of creative ways to break that barrier. We suggest you identify the limitations of virtual telemedicine and decide which types of visits can be done virtually such as a follow-up.
- “A proper physical exam can still be done via telemedicine” - Dr. Diana Girnita (00:29:00)
- With the proper experience, a doctor can conduct a thorough physical exam by knowing the proper questions to ask and by actively listening to the patient.
- Having Continuing Medical Education Evolve with Healthcare Innovations:
- Continuing Medical Education should be equipping physicians with the knowledge and skills to provide the best possible care to the patients. The CME process requires a make-over. It must evolve with innovation and up-to-date medical practices (including telemedicine) to stay relevant.
- Accepting innovation within healthcare:
- Importance of accepting change, the patients are ready for innovation within healthcare so why aren’t the physicians? We see time and time again, patients turn to Google regarding their symptoms rather than calling their doctor because the wait time and process of going into the office is an inconvenience.
“Patients want innovation to happen in medicine… patients are looking for solutions, that’s why they ask Dr. Google all the time, the fact that patients go and ask Dr. Google instead of coming to you is because they don’t have access when they need you.”
- Dr. Diana Girnita (00:43:10)
