Ian Madom and Stacy Brink both attended Saint Anthony’s High School, but their paths didn’t align back then. Ian, extroverted and full of energy, was a bit overwhelming for Stacy, who was somewhat reticent. Ian saw her as quiet, reserved and uninterested in his antics. Ian was active in crew and led the multicultural organization, while Stacy shined on the kick line team and the mediation squad. Despite their differences in high school, fate had other plans. On the first day of their freshman year at NYU, their paths crossed outside Hayden Hall, where they quickly connected, becoming inseparable friends.
After NYU, Ian pursued medical studies at SUNY Upstate Medical University, eventually specializing in orthopedic surgery. His journey took him to an orthopedic trauma fellowship at Brown University and spinal surgery training at the University of Utah, culminating in an MBA from Yale. Today, Ian is a renowned spine specialist in Rhode Island, known for his work in minimally invasive and robotic surgery techniques. Stacy’s post-NYU career began at Scholastic Books in International Sales and Marketing. She later transitioned to Bergdorf Goodman, blending her passion for fashion and business in Women’s Sportswear. Stacy eventually moved into wholesale, rising to VP of Sales for Women’s Ready-to-Wear and Accessories in North America at ETRO. Stacy married Tom, a tech finance executive she met at NYU, and together they have two sons, Nelson (17) and Jack (14), and live in the Bay Area. Ian married Lindsay, an OB/GYN he met at Upstate Medical. They have four children—twins Cyrus and Luke (16), Bryce (13), and Ruby (11)—and settled in Rhode Island.
In 2018, Ian teamed up with his Yale classmate, Dr. George Fernaine, to cofound Mocingbird, a software platform that simplifies managing licenses and credentials for clinicians. The idea came from a shared need Ian and George experienced in their medical careers. Ian explained, “It streamlines the process, giving clinicians more time for what matters—education and, more importantly, ‘pajama time’ with family.” This balance, Ian believes, is crucial for maintaining passio in their profession.
In 2020, when Ian posted a job for a Sales Development Associate at Mocingbird, he was surprised to receive interest from Stacy. Despite her vast experience, Ian joked, “Stacy never sold a thing in her life, but she always knew how to sell a vision.” Since October 2021, Stacy has served as Chief Revenue Officer, driving the company’s growth.
Initially, Ian worked behind the scenes at Mocingbird while maintaining his surgical practice, but in January 2022, he stepped into the role of CEO. Now, Ian and Stacy work closely together in daily operations and leadership, finding immense reward in building something meaningful alongside one another.
Both Ian and Stacy credit much of their personal and professional development to their time at Saint Anthony’s. Stacy recalls the confidence she gained from Brother Philip Herte, her Public Speaking teacher, and the discipline instilled by her kickline coach, Ms. Fabricatore. “Ms. Fabs was a major influence, encouraging me to see my potential and worth,” Stacy shared. Ian fondly remembers Ms. Creighton’s support and Mrs. Lorraine Becker’s challenging calculus class, which pushed him to strive for excellence. “The structure and discipline I learned at Saint Anthony’s set the foundation for my success in medical school and beyond,” Ian said.
Today, Ian and Stacy are committed to helping those who help others, with Mocingbird focused on simplifying the lives of clinicians. Their shared vision, shaped by their time at Saint Anthony’s, has allowed them to create something truly impactful. And for that, we are all grateful.
